CESC RULED OUT

Cesc Fabregas would not be able to play for Barcelona for the next four weeks because of the thigh injury that he discovered in Barcelona’s previous match against Real Betis on Sunday. Barcelona won that match by 2-1.

Fabregas had started that match, but, he had to leave the ground only in the ninth minute because of the injury. Later on, it was confirmed that Fabregas’ injury is not a minor one and he would have to remain out for approximately a month. He would miss Barcelona’s last three games this year. Two out of those three matches are the La Liga ones, while, the third one is a Copa Del Rey encounter against Cordoba.

Apart from Fabregas, one other Barcelona player, Carlos Puyol, also got injured during the match against Betis and left the field at half-time. However, despite the injuries of these two players, Barcelona managed to secure another victory; it’s 14th in the league. Both the goals for Barcelona were scored by Lionel Messi. The great Argentinean scored his first goal in the 16th minute. He got a great pass from Iniesta outside the penalty area. He showed great footwork to beat Amaya and Dorado before driving the ball into the right hand corner of the net.

Just a few minutes later, Messi doubled the lead of his team. Again, it was Iniesta who set up the goal and Messi finished it with a wonderful left footed shot. This was Messi’s 86th goal in the calendar year. With this goal, Messi broke Gerd Muller’s world record of scoring 85 goals in a calendar year.

Betis reduced the lead to 1-2 with the goal of Ruben Castro in the 39th minute of the match, but, they didn’t manage to score the equalizer in the remaining time and lost the match.

Barcelona will play its next match against Cordoba on Wednesday at Estadio Nuevo Arcangel.
